Pontefract was the second biggest property hotspot of 2015, according to a survey of house sales taking place in towns across England and Wales.
The report, which was compiled by Halifax, found that the number of property sales taking place in Pontefract in Wakefield
district jumped by 20 per cent last year compared with 2014.
Salford saw the biggest increase with sales increasing by 23 per cent.
Property sales in Batley fell by 27 per cent last year compared to 2014 according to the report. Batley was ranked sixth in the table of towns and boroughs with the biggest percentage falls in property sales in 2015.
Halifax looked at the numbers of house sales recorded by the Land Registry across more than 550 postal towns and London boroughs.
It compared the number of house sales in the eight months to August 2015 with those which took place during the same period in 2014
