A Place in the Sun’s Sara Demergi TV’s Sara Damergi presents A Place in the Sun. I currently own… A garden flat in south-west London. The best thing about my home is… It’s close to Wimbledon common and Richmond park, great for dog walks! I got into property… Through the family business. My Dad ran a bespoke service for Arabic VIPs relocating, renting and buying holiday homes. I have been around the property business since I was a child. I want to see property prices… I like value being added to my flat by it just sitting there in London, it’s great if you intend to sell and retire abroad! However, the increase in prices means the first time buyer situation in London is quite dire. I would hate London to be like some other places in the world where lots of locals can’t afford to live in the centre due to huge amounts of foreign investment. The solution to London’s housing crisis is… Potentially capping as they did in New York but preferably more developments are to be encouraged. The problem with that however, is potentially moving onto the green open spaces which are already rare in London My top tip for adding value to your home is… To bring out the character features, if you can extend obviously do, make the most of any outside space it’s a rarity in London and a great selling point. The most I’ve spent on something for my home is…I’m renovating it at the moment which is costing a lot, especially the new kitchen and goods. The most I’ve spent on any one item is my mid-century chesterfield. It was an expense at over a thousand, A lot for what’s effectively a second hand sofa. I am worth the money because… I genuinely love everything about what I do and care about our house hunters getting the best properties on a place in the sun! My best property coup was… Currently we are, as a family, building a development of flats and shops in the middle east. I haven’t been out there as much as I’d like due to my filming schedule but I hope it will be a coup when we finish! My biggest missed opportunity was… Buying in Kensington back when it was cheap! First time buyers trying to get on London’s property ladder should… Look into first time buyer schemes. If I was mayor for a day I would… give everyone a day’s holiday, free tube rides and yoga classes in the park and a massive free music festival! It’s only a day, we may as well make it fun. What keeps me awake at night is… At the moment, cicadas as I’m filming in Costa Rica!
